We Are

Our Mission

Our goal is simple - provide road workers/contractors with the quickest and easiest way to know their location on the jobsite.

There are many misconceptions out there when it comes to the heavy highway industry, such as unskilled labor and uneducated workers. But we know this is the furthest thing from the truth.

That’s why we created a new innovative project location tool designed specifically for civil engineering. Accessing stationing, design layers, and plans through a mobile app that centralizes communication will increase your projects' productivity and efficiency everyday.

Our Story

The idea of OnStation was created in the living room of former Ohio Department of Transportation’s (ODOT) Transportation Engineer, Jake Bailosky, in 2014. After reading, “iOS App Development for Dummies,” Jake wanted to create a tool to make his job easier and challenge his app developing skills. So, he got to work on answering the common annoying questions of ‘Where are you?’ and ‘What are you doing?’ With the advancement of mobile phone technology and digital design files, the OnStation mobile app soon became a reality.

After developing OnStation 1.0, Jake knew he could not take on this new business venture alone and sought help through his professional network. He joined an entrepreneurial mentorship program where he was introduced to Patrick Russo, a talented business professional with startup experience. Patrick saw an opportunity with this product because of the shift in technology within the heavy highway and construction space. After being awarded a few initial grants, OnStation was off and running full steam ahead and has not stopped since.

Our first customers, UDOT, RL Wadsworth (2015), and WisDOT (2016), provided the validation that OnStation was a solution roadworkers, crews, managers, and even owners were looking for. After initial investment dollars and public apps became available in both the Apple App Store (2018) and Google Play Store (2019), OnStation accelerated big time in 2021 with a formal investment round. With dry powder in the bank, the team grew to over 10 and 375 projects were active in the app (April 2022).

Today, OnStation is deployed at multiple DOTs, 200+ contractors, has integration to major industry software, and is fulfilling our goal of becoming the leading location and communication app across all roadway projects. Knowing that crews across the country start their days with an instant station from OnStation provides fuel to continue to deliver an easy-to-use app that increases productivity, worker safety, and project quality.

“Not every idea that is worked on will turn into something meaningful. But every idea that remains solely an idea, will always remain just that.”

— Patrick Russo, CEO

Our Community

“There are several [benefits] including locating points on the project, seeing items in a position where they go, being able to view plans without having to carry a large print set. Being able to set flags and chats to communicate with others on the project along with photos of the areas of concern, having a method to record items for record keeping.”

— Richard Avery

“If you want an easy and accurate app to use in the field to easily access stationing this is the app for CA workers. If you don't prefer physical copies of plans this is a useful tool. This app could be an easy way to communicate with the contractor if they are also using the app.”

— Monet Goode

“It is really good for sharing information and retaining information. Unlike text messages which can’t become part of the files. I especially see it’s usefulness with dealing with soil erosion, temporary traffic controls and other misc. issues like punch lists.”

— Mike Zylstra
